Fun things to do in Parsippany, NJ make it an ideal family vacation destination

If you’re thinking of great places to take your next family trip, you might want to add Parsippany, New Jersey to the top of your list. Regardless of age, few things are as genuinely delightful as seeing wild animals up close and personal, and very few experiences are as exhilarating as the sensation of descending from the top of a rollercoaster peak at speeds up to 80mph! Fact is, Parsippany is in close proximity to these and other New York Metro area attractions that offer your entire family a slew of unique adventures to choose from.

Just ten miles from Parsippany city center is the Turtle Back Zoo where you can find over 500 animals and over 200 different species sprawled across an 18-acre plot of land. When it first opened in 1963, it housed only animals native to the state, but it has since expanded to feature species from all continents except Antarctica. The zoo is open year-round, so no matter what time of year you are visiting, this excursion will be one that both you and the kids won’t soon forget.

Parsippany, NJ sightseeing includes historic Morristown National Historic Park

Just five miles from Parsippany is the famous Morristown National Historic Park—one of the most historically-rich sites in the entire country, and certainly a place worth visiting if you enjoy relaxing trips that offer much to learn. During two of the most critical winters of the Revolutionary War (1777 and 1779-80), the Morristown countryside was not only home to the main encampments of the American Continental Army, it was also the longest-serving headquarters of General George Washington during the war. The park is made up of four bordering parts: Washington’s Headquarters, which consists of the Ford Mansion and the Headquarters Museum, the Fort Nonsense Unit, the Jockey Hollow Unit and the New Jersey Brigade Area, all of which offer plenty of historical facts for onlookers to absorb as they take in the ancient sights.

Six Flags: lions and tigers and ziplines … oh my!

For families with older kids, Six Flags Great Adventure and Wild Safari is the ultimate place to spend a long, fun-filled day. Though it requires a little more travel, it is well worth the trip to what said will “officially” be “the world’s biggest theme park” in 2013. They will be combining their thrill ride-packed amusement park with their animal safari into a single major attraction. Once the doors open for the 2013 season, visitors will be able to take guided tours on open-air vehicles through a newly renovated and redesigned safari area where you can pet and hand-feed giraffes, rhinos and some of the other 1200 wandering animals. If you’re feeling extra fearless, you will be able to pay an additional fee to ride a zipline above the abundant wildlife below. The park’s president, John Fitzgerald, sums up the worthiness of this remarkable trip best in just one sentence: “Where else can you ride a wave, go on a safari, and soar on world-record breaking coasters?”
